Mr. Langdon completed his post-secondary education at
Memorial University of Newfoundland, earning a
Bachelor of Education degree, as well as a Bachelor of
Arts degree. Subsequent to his graduation, Mr. Langdon
began his teaching career and continued as an educator
for 24 years.
Mr. Langdon’s political
career began when he was elected to the Point
Leamington Town Council in 1972, serving for 13 years.
He served as the town representative on the School Tax
Authority for eight years, and served five years on
the Board of Directors for the Newfoundland and
Labrador Federation of Municipalities.
Mr. Langdon was first
elected to the House of Assembly in 1989 as MHA for
the district of Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune, and was
successfully re-elected in 1993, 1996, 1999 and 2003.
After the 1996 election, Mr. Langdon became
Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier. On July 4,
1997, Mr. Langdon was appointed to Cabinet as Minister
of Environment and Labour and on February 13, 2001,
appointed Minister of Municipal and Provincial
Affairs. In assuming this position, Mr. Langdon became
Registrar General for the province and was responsible
for the Office of the Fire Commissioner, the Emergency
Measures Organization and the Newfoundland and
Labrador Housing Corporation.
Since his re-election
of 2003, Mr. Langdon is the critic for Municipal and
Provincial Affairs. |
