Wally Andersen grew up in Makkovik and graduated from
high school in North West River. In 1973 Wally began
working as a stock-handler for the government owned
store in the Northern Labrador community of Davis
Inlet. He was promoted to Buyer in the Goose Bay store
and soon made his way to the top position of Manager
of Operations and Purchasing. Wally and his wife Marie
have two daughters.
Upon moving to Happy
Valley-Goose Bay in 1974, Wally became involved in
many community groups. He was a member of the Happy
Valley Lions Club, being selected Citizen of the Year
in 1983 for his work and dedication to the youth of
Happy Valley- Goose Bay. Wally has been involved in
minor hockey for 15 years, spending 12 years as
president of the local hockey association. He has won
provincial and national awards for his support of
minor hockey in Labrador.
Wally Andersen has
worked on behalf of his community for many years. He
has worked countless hours since 1996 as the Member of
The House of Assembly for Torngat Mountains. Wally is
a very caring person and has worked very hard to
improve the quality of life of his constituents. He
has accomplished this through meaningful work programs
and building of infrastructure.
Wally was re-elected in
Torngat Mountains in the February 9th, 1999 election
and was named Liberal Caucus Chair in November 1999.
On November 6, 2000, Wally was also appointed
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier on Aboriginal
Affairs.
On February 13, 2001,
Wally was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the
Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs by Premier
Roger Grimes. Two years later on February 17, 2003, he
was called to the Cabinet as the new Minister of
Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs.
Wally was once again
successful in being re-elected in the General Election
on October 21, 2003. |
