Eddie Joyce, MHA for the District of Bay of Islands, says he is pleased that
Templeton Academy will hold its official opening on Friday of this week.
Templeton Academy is a K-12 school that recently opened on the North Shore
of the Bay of Islands. Funding was approved under the former Liberal
administration and tenders were called in 2003. The school now boasts
improved facilities and technology advancements that will benefit students.
"I want to congratulate the school councils, parents, teachers and
students for their successful lobbying effort to have this new
state-of-the-art school reconstructed," said Mr. Joyce. "While there have
been issues over the past two years, including the current government’s
refusal to raise the roof of the gymnasium, I am pleased that we have
finally reached the point where the school is officially open.
"I was glad to have the opportunity to work on behalf of the student body
in the Bay of Islands to see this school become a reality. The soccer field
and playground area at the school is an excellent addition for the students
and I am proud to help provide funding for this expansion of recreational
facilities.
"Prior to the last election, two schools were announced and went ahead
without delay. I am pleased that both of these schools were in the Bay of
Islands. I look forward to the new opportunities that will be created for
the young people in our district as a result of these new and upgraded
facilities."
