Sweeney announces intention not to seek re-election August 15, 2007

George Sweeney, MHA for the District of Carbonear-Harbour Grace, announced today that he will not be seeking re-election once the upcoming provincial general election is called. AI requested that the nomination not be called in my district until I had testing results back from my doctor,@ said Mr. Sweeney. AAs a result of health concerns, I will not be seeking a third term as the representative for the people of Carbonear-Harbour Grace District. AI have very much enjoyed working with the people of this region and will continue to do so in the future. I want to thank all my constituents who have supported me over the past eight years, and all those whom I consider my neighbours and friends. I was happy to share my home with those needing to discuss issues or required assistance when dealing with significant problems. AWhile my name will not be on the ballot this time around, I will take every opportunity to ensure that the District of Carbonear-Harbour Grace remains Liberal representing the true interests of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.@
