Conservative government reckless with health care

The conservative government has quickly shown their lack of commitment to health care. Yvonne Jones, MHA for Cartwright L’Anse au Clair and opposition critic for health and community services, cannot believe that basic health improvements are being put on hold while people are in need.

"The health minister recently confirmed that construction of a $4.1 million cancer facility in Grand Falls-Windsor has been put on hold," said Jones. "This recklessness when approaching social programming is something that the Liberal caucus has cautioned the public about all along.

"For the government to even consider putting these improvements to health care on hold shows their lack of priority and caring in relation to health care. The public should not accept this approach to health care and the conservative government must be held accountable. I fear that if there is no strong public opposition, they may continue their trend of anticipated cutbacks."

Another Liberal MHA has grave concerns about what this development will hold for other health care facilities around the province.

"As the MHA for Twillingate-Fogo district, I wonder what fate the conservative government has in store for the Fogo health facility," asked Gerry Reid. "It is apparent that the backbench MHAs in the PC caucus have no say in an urban dominated cabinet that has exercised ultimate control of the decision making process."
