Percy Barrett, MHA for Bellevue District, says
that he is pleased to see the current scope of work at Bull Arm on the Main
Electrical Room (MER) and Local Electrical Room (LER) being completed on
time and on budget.
"The current scope of work that was put into Bull Arm in April was a
result of months of negotiations and compromise between North Eastern
Constructors Limited (NECL), government, the Bull Arm Site Corporation and
the various skilled trade unions working at the site," said Mr.
Barrett. "As I recall, Mines and Energy Minister Ed Byrne and his
opposition colleagues, time and time again criticized government for not
doing enough to attract work to Bull Arm. I’m pleased to see that Mr.
Byrne has now changed his attitude, as seen in his Friday press release, and
believes that our government did a valuable job in attracting this work to
the site, and Bull Arm continues to have a great future.
"I’ve been saying from day one that the Bull Arm site is a world
class facility with great potential for our province. Our skilled workforce
continues to produce quality work and is considered to be among the best in
the world. The PC opposition continuously criticized our efforts as a
government to attract work to the area, and I now question why Minister
Byrne is only recognizing our efforts at this time.
"I am hopeful that Minister Byrne will work as diligently as the
previous government to attract work to the site. In Opposition they stated
that our promotional activities and efforts were not sufficient. I look
forward to hearing what their new ideas will be to attract more activity to
the site, and I will be watching on behalf of my constituents to ensure that
Bull Arm is not neglected by this administration." |
