Opposition Leader Gerry Reid today announced changes to the shadow cabinet
for the coming session of the House of Assembly.
"Our shadow cabinet will be responsible for monitoring and critiquing the
actions of this government," said Mr. Reid. "Our critics will be asking
questions of all ministers to ensure they are being held accountable for the
decisions of their respective departments."
Reid says that Eddie Joyce will now become the critic for the Department
of Transportation and Works. Wally Andersen will become the critic for the
Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, while remaining the critic
for Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs. Kelvin Parsons will become the critic
for Forestry, in addition to his previously held critic role for Mines and
Energy, Justice and Attorney General. Roland Butler will become the critic
for Education, as well as maintaining his responsibilities as critic for
Human Resources and Employment. All other critic responsibilities remain the
same.
The following shadow portfolios have been assigned to each caucus member:
Gerry Reid - Premier, Intergovernmental Affairs, Fisheries and
Aquaculture
Wally Andersen - Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Labrador and
Aboriginal Affairs
Percy Barrett - Environment and Labour
Roland Butler - Education, Human Resources and Employment
Judy Foote - Industry, Trade and Rural Development, Business
Yvonne Jones - Health and Community Services, Labrador Affairs,
Status of Women
Eddie Joyce - Transportation and Works, Chair of the Public Accounts
Committee
Oliver Langdon - Municipal Affairs, Caucus Chair
Kelvin Parsons - Justice and Attorney General, Natural Resources,

George Sweeney - Government Services, Opposition Whip
Anna Thistle - Finance, Treasury Board, Post-Secondary Education
"Our members will continue to provide an effective Opposition on behalf
of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Mr. Reid. "We will work
diligently to ensure that the citizens of the province have a voice when
government makes their decisions, and we will continue to raise the people’s
concerns both inside and outside the legislature."
