Reid thanks Jack Harris for his commitment to the people of the province

October 28, 2005

Opposition Leader Gerry Reid today thanked NDP Leader Jack Harris for his contribution and commitment to the people of the province and political life over the past 15 years.

"I have the utmost respect for Jack Harris," said Mr. Reid. "While Mr. Harris announced today that he will be stepping down in the near future as Leader of the NDP Party, I look forward to continue working with him in the House of Assembly over the coming months. His contribution to the shaping of public policy and debate in the province has been very valuable. I have dealt with Mr. Harris as both a government and opposition member and have found his comments insightful and constructive.

"I have always respected the dedication and determination of Mr. Harris as he brought forth the concerns of his constituents, and those of the people of the province in general. As well, Mr. Harris always ensured that his party’s views and policies were heard and promoted in the media and the House of Assembly. I am certain that the NDP Party will have a tough time filling Mr. Harris’ shoes once he leaves the legislature."
