Yvonne Jones, MHA for the District of Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair, is asking
government to release reports related to transportation services and fees in
Labrador. Jones says government has three reports in its possession, the
Labrador marine services study, a study on freight rates and a study on the
regional airport for the south coast of Labrador, but is refusing to release
any of them publicly. "These three reports are very important to the
people of coastal Labrador," said Ms. Jones. "Government has had the marine
services study in their possession for over a year, they have had the study
on Labrador freight rates since May, and have had the report on the regional
airport for the area since July. Whether this government realizes it or not,
the people of Labrador deserve to see the conclusions of these studies.
"This government committed in their election blue book to release all
reports within 30 days after it has been received in the department
responsible. It is unfortunate that they have decided to break this
commitment and not release these three reports, especially the Labrador
marine services study that has been in their possession for over a year. It
is time these reports were release so everyone in Labrador will know the
status of these important issues.
"Over the past two years, there has been limited investment made by this
government in the District of Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair. As a matter of
fact, most of the investment has been limited to these transportation
studies, however, the people of the district I represent have not been able
to see the conclusions of these reports. I am calling on government once
again to live up to their election commitment, release these studies, and
let the people see exactly what is being done to address the transportation
problems they face on daily basis."
